Our Special Bonds: Cardinals Haters Rejoice (Questions)

For those looking for a way to take out their anger at seeing Adam Wainwright on the mound this evening. When you're done, do yourself a favor and buy a subscription to the Play Index at Baseball-Reference.com Then you can make up your own trivia questions.

Answers here:

1) Name the only Cardinals pitcher, a former Met, to suffer 3 walk-off losses (most of any Cardinals pitcher) against the Mets as a Cardinal.

2) Two Mets share the distinction of having the highest batting average (.380) against the Cardinals, as a Met (minimum 100 plate appearances). Each went 41-for-108 against them. One shares a last name with a big city. The other shares the first three letters of his first name with a small state. Name them.

3) Name the former Met who went 0-7 against the Mets, while a member of the Cardinals (the worst winless record by a Cardinal against the Mets). He shares part of his last name with a former very successful Met.

4) The best unbeaten regular-season record by a Mets pitcher against the Cardinals is 5-0, though it's kind of funny when you think about it. Name the pitcher.

5) Of the 45 pitchers that lifelong Cardinal Ozzie Smith faced in at least 50 plate appearances, his two lowest batting averages came against former Mets. He hit .151 against a lefty and .152 against a righty. Name the pitchers.

6) Vince Coleman struck out 16 times in his career, more than he did againast anyone, against a pair of pitchers. Don Carman is one of the two pitchers. Name the other.

7) The most strikeouts that Yadier Molina has had in his career against one pitcher is 3. Seven pitchers can say they've struck him out 3 times in the regular season. Glendon Rusch is the only former Met on the list. Name the only current Met.

8) As Jeremy Schaap noted on ESPN Radio the other day. Shawn Green, with 325 career HR, is now as many HR away from Hank Greenberg (Jewish HR record-holder) as Barry Bonds is from Hank Aaron (6). Against which former Met has Shawn Green homered the most (5 times)?

9) (A late addition) The last time the Mets won a rain-shortened game is the famous "asterisk walk-off" of September 25, 1995, against the Reds. A current Cardinal played in that game. Name him.

The best Mets ejections I know

When you think of the Mets and famous ejections, I'm guessing you first think of the famous Bobby Valentine mustache game, when after Valentine got tossed, he returned to the dugout in disguise. You know it. You love it. I remember being amused when I asked Bobby V about it while we were working on Baseball Tonight, how he simply said "It worked. We won the game." (true) But the Bobby V mustache game of June 9, 1999 is one of many, many memorable Mets ejection stories. And now thanks to Retrosheet and the magic of Newspapers.com , we have a convenient means for being able to share them. Ever since Retrosheet's David Smith recently announced that the Retrosheet ejection database was posted online , I've been a kid in a candy store. I've organized the data and done some lookups of media coverage around the games that interested me post. Those newspaper accounts fill in a lot of blanks. Without further ado (and with more work to do), here are some of my findings

Walk-Offs in Movies, TV, and Other Places

Note: I'm leaving this post up through the end of the week, a) because I don't have time to pump out something new and b)because I was hoping to build a really good list of entertainment industry walk-offs...so if you're looking for something new, check back on Monday or so... Of course, if there's a major trade or move, I'll adjust and try to post something... In the meantime, click on the "Table of Contents" link as well. It has been updated. SPOILER ALERT: Read at your own risk Caught the ending of "A League of Their Own" on one of the movie channels the other day and it got me to thinking that it would be fun to compile a list of walk-offs from movies, television, and other forms of entertainment. Here's the start, and only the start, as I spent about 30 minutes or so thinking it over Help me fill in the blanks by filling out the comments section.
